Peter Mendenhall Gallery - Daniel Douke & Marc Foxx Gallery - Kris Martin
June 3, 2011: So today I had to chaperon yet another field trip, but hands down.. This was my favorite. We first went out for breakfast: 5 chaperons, 45 students, but think about it for a second: we’re at IHOP and 45 high school students walk in and get all excited, act immature, and are loud as hell. Yea, I had to deal with that way to early in the morning.. It was a bad idea. Anyway, once we were finally situated, we ate (like an hour after we were given a place to sit) and then made our way to these two awesome museums on Whilshire Blvd: the Peter Mendenhall & Mark Foxx Gallery. I was fascinated by the fact that I could walk into a hot air balloon and explore the depths of it. I honestly never thought it would be so cool to just chill inside a balloon, but it was! Then we went upstairs and I was, yet again, fascinated by the paintings on the wall. They were interesting at first because they looked like regular postmarked boxes, mail boxes, and wooden boxes, so I was trying to find the catch and I did. They were all painted and made on canvases to deceive the eye; it was amazing. The art this world has to offer only gets better and I am glad to be able to discover it. I know I have lived in Los Angeles all my life, but I seldom leave my house, yet alone explore the city, so when I begin branching out I wonder what I have been doing with my life. These galleries have always been there and I have never taken the time to appreciate and discover something new. I swear, if it were not because I work at UNI and met my coworker I would not be doing anything with my life.. Anyhow, right after we were done checking out the galleries we finally made our way to the main event: Tim Burton’s Exhibit at LACMA (chaperon tickets were payed by Ms. Ishi), but that is a separate story.
For now, I shall leave you with this.
